Until March of this year, Creative Cauldron will be hosting as series of cross-cultural performances, workshops, and demonstrations. Each week will feature performances by professional music, dance and theater troupes representing culture and  traditions from all around the globe. These events are designed to be pocket-friendly so that everyone has the chance to travel around the world without ever having to leave "The Little City". The events will be located at the ArtSpace Falls Church at 410 South Maple Avenue, Falls Church 22046. Tickets for the events can be purchased on location.

Falls Church Arts invited area artists to submit work for this juried all-media show. As in last year’s popular FCA “LETTERS” show, no further direction was be given on how the show’s theme was to be interpreted, so entries ranged from works that made an impression on the mind’s eye to works that were actually impressed into paper. The best time to see this show is before and after “Passport to the World” performances at Artspace Falls Church.

As of February 1, 2012 Ms. Joanna Ormesher will assume the position of Executive Director at The Reunion Music Society. She succeeds Mr. Lorin Goodrich who retires on January 31, 2012 after serving for over six years. The Arts Council of Fairfax County recognizes Mr. Lorin for the time and talent that he has provided over the years with Reunion Music Society to nurture and support young composers and performers in Fairfax County.

The applications for CAH scholarships for 2012 are now online.  Applications are due by close of business April 20, 2012.  Scholarships will be awarded at the Herndon Town Council public meeting on May 22, 2012 at 7:00 pm.  Awardees will be notified in advance.  Please call 703-689-9535 with any questions.

In a debut at the CenterStage in Reston Community Center, Classical Ballet Theatre Contemporary Company will present a mixed program including works by acclaimed choreographer Michael Shannon. The performance will occur on Thursday, February 16th, 2012, 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the company's website.

The ArtSpace Herndon invites the public to the artist reception on Sunday, February 19th from 3:00PM-5:00PM. The gallery talk will begin at approximately 3:40pm. The Alternate Realities exhibition at ArtSpace Herndon runs through March 11th, 2012. This art exhibition will be highlighting alternate views of reality by four visionary artists from the greater DC area. The exhibit will be open to the public.

Falls Church Arts invites artists to submit work in any “ism.” Can you see references in your work to Georges Braque’s cubism, Georges Rouault’s fauvist paintings, Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s impressionism, or to any other “ism” of any period? Here is an opportunity to declare the links between the artists who have been classified into particular styles or “isms” and their influence on your work. Deadline for receipt of entry fee, forms, and digital images of work is Wednesday, February 22. Vist the Falls Church Arts webpage for further information.

On Friday, February 24, McLean Project for the Arts will "POP-UP" in a surprise location in downtown McLean, with art, the Dead Cat Bounce Band, an open bar and delicious treats from the McLean area's best restaurants. Tickets are $35 each or 2 for $50 and includes drinks, hors d'oeuvres, live band and more.

Grammy-winning band Buckwheat Zydeco brings the bayou to the beltway this February with vibrant blues-rock and rollicking zydeco dance. The band released 2 albums in 2009. The first, Lay Your Burden Down, won a Grammy Award for Best Cajun and Zydeco Album. Later that year they released a greatest hits album, Essential Recordings: Let the Good Times Roll.
